Choosing a septic tank material is a decision that requires an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the various solutions. When deciding which septic tank to choose, it is worth considering all the arguments taken into account. In recent years, polyethylene sewage tanks have become increasingly popular, and in many respects they are superior to their concrete counterparts. More and more people are opting for modern plastic solutions that combine functionality with low cost. Below we briefly review the key arguments for choosing plastic septic tanks.

Plastic septictanks, which are manufactured using the rotational method, are completely monolithic. This means, , that they have no joints or welds. As a result, their tightness is absolute and the risk of leaks is practically non-existent - even after many years of operation. There is therefore no danger of wastewater leaking out over the years. In the case of concrete tanks, micro-cracks can appear in the walls over time, leading to a loss of tightness. In addition, concrete septic tanks are made up of several parts (bottom, walls, lid) and the joints are particularly prone to leaks.

One of the biggest advantages of plastic septic tanks is their lightness. They are many times lighter than concrete tanks. In comparison, a plastic tank with a capacity of a few cubic metres weighs tens or hundreds of kilograms, while a concrete counterpart can weigh several tonnes. This difference significantly affects the ease of transport, installation and overall cost of use.

The lightness of plastic septic tanks allows them to be transported by standard vehicles. It is not necessary to hire specialised trucks with lifting gear. Unloading such a tank can be done manually by sliding the tank off the vehicle using a ramp made of boards or straps. This is both more convenient and considerably cheaper. Of course, care must be taken to provide belaying. In the case of concrete tanks, transport requires the use of a crane, which generates additional high costs. The cost of hiring a crane is many times higher than the price of transporting a plastic tank.

The assembly of a plastic tank is much simpler and faster. Due to its low weight, it can be easily moved by hand or with a mini excavator, which is usually available on site. Concrete tanks require heavy equipment, which increases the difficulty of the project and the cost of installation.

Tanks made from polyethylene, are extremely durable and guaranteed for decades. When properly installed according to the manufacturer's recommendations, the risk of damage is minimal. Concrete tanks, on the other hand, lose their properties over time - micro-cracks appear on the walls and leaks at the joints between the walls and the bottom.

The polyethylene from which plastic tanks are made can be recycled. If the tank is no longer useful, it can be dug up and recycled, minimising the environmental impact. Disposal of concrete tanks is much more complicated and costly, generating waste that is difficult to manage.

Plastic tanks are environmentally neutral. Polyethylene does not react chemically with wastewater or the surrounding soil, ensuring environmental safety. Concrete tanks, unfortunately, do not guarantee this level of environmental protection.
