Location of a household wastewater treatment plant
The growing costs of sewage disposal and disposal are more and more often prompting us to eliminate drainless wastewater collection tanks and replace it by the household sewage treatment plants. When planning the location of the sewage treatment plant, we must remember that we cannot only be guided by the size of its individual elements. First of all, we should respect the basic distances that must be kept between the treatment plant and the well or the border of our plot. Below are the basic distances that we must remember when planning the installation of a home sewage treatment plant.
Elements of land development | Distance in meters from
settling tank | drainage
Property boundary or road | 2 | 2 |
Residential house | 5* | 5 |
Well - drinking water intake | 15 | 30 |
Groundwater | No standards | 1,5** |
Trees and shrubs | No standards | 3,0 |
* The septic tank can be located in the immediate vicinity of the building, provided that the venting from the sewage system is at least 0.6 m above the upper edge of windows and external doors in the building. Otherwise, this distance must be min. 5 m.
** The distance of the drainage pipes from the groundwater table can not be less than 1.5 m
The septic tank should not be installed closer than 15 m from the nearest well and the distance of the drainage drain from the water intakes should be at least 30 m. The maintenance of such distances is conditioned by the possibility of pathogenic microorganisms getting into the water intakes. Importantly, the above distances apply to all water wells intended for human consumption, both on the plot where the household sewage treatment plant is to be located, and on the neighboring plots.
The distance of the settling tank, which consists of a household sewage treatment plant from the plot border and a public road should be at least 2 m.
Valuable tips
Before starting the construction of a household sewage treatment plant, it is worth going to the Commune Office. Often, the commune has funds to finance investments, and then our construction is even more financially beneficial. We can obtain a grant from the the National Fund for Environmental Protection (NFOŚ) or a low-interest loan from Environment Protection Bank (BOŚ). It is worth consulting with a company that specializes in household sewage treatment plants. The company will determine the water and ground conditions, the building area and the most effective technology of wastewater treatment. The selection of tanks is very important because then we are sure of many years of trouble-free operation. When planning the construction of a household sewage treatment plant, we must report it to the Poviat Starosty. In accordance with the applicable regulations, when building a sewage treatment plant up to 7.5 m3/d, it is required to notify the investment in the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the County Office. The application should be accompanied by the required documents: a situational and altitude map with the location of the treatment plant, a statement on the right to dispose of the property and a draft design describing the type and operation of the technology. The County Office has 30 days to raise an objection, if it does not, we can start construction. If we have a construction permit for a septic tank, we can apply for a replacement permit for the construction of a houseold sewage treatment plant. The process for obtaining a replacement permit is the same as in the point above.
