Fat and starch separators

Grease and starch separators are devices designed to capture the particles of these substances before they enter the sanitary sewer system. The separators are fitted with settling tanks to clean wastewater of mineral suspended solids or have filter baskets to capture starch from technological processes (e.g. bakery processes). The selection of such a separator must be preceded by consultation with a designer. The next steps in the selection process and valuable tips are described in our guide: Selection of a fat separator.

During treatment, there are sedimentation and flotation processes. These separate specific substances from the rest of the sewage. This is very important in the further process of wastewater removal, as fats and starch form accumulations. These cause flow blockages in the discharge pipes.

Offered separators are made of polyethylene by rotational molding method which ensures that the tank is durable and tight for many years. The small height of the tank allows you to reduce assembly costs by using shallower excavations during installation. Separators in the standard option are suitable for installation in green areas. Following the manufacturer's instructions, they can also be installed in a drive-through area or as free-standing separators. Separators meet all standards and approvals allowing for installation in the country.

Aquatechnika is the perfect place to buy fat and starch separators. We guarantee delivery throughout Poland - Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, Szczecin, Lodz, Katowice, other and foreign deliveries. Before making your selection, we invite you to check attractive offers and contact advisers. We offer the lowest prices and the opportunity to negotiate.

FAQ

How does the fat separator work?

The working principle of the fat separator is based on the gravitational separation of lighter-than-water fats and their accumulation on the wastewater surface. In addition, substances heavier than water (some suspended particles and solids) fall to the bottom of the tank (settling tank).  The separators are fitted with siphons that prevent grease substances from flowing out of the device. The wastewater can then be discharged into the general sewage system or into an individual wastewater treatment plant.

How to select a fat separator?

In order to function properly, it is necessary to select a suitable separator depending on the volume and type of wastewater produced. According to the standards, the following should be taken into account: maximum daily wastewater flow, wastewater temperature, fat content in the wastewater and detergent content in the wastewater. Calculation formulas are used for selection. Based on the values obtained, the appropriate solution offered by the manufacturer should be selected. More information and calculation formulas can be found in the guide.

Which separator for a restaurant or canteen ?

The selection of a fat separator for a restaurant, canteen is based mainly on the number of meals served per day. On this basis, there are ready-made tables, provided by manufacturers, which should be followed. For more information, see the guide.

Which fat separator for a butcher's shop?

The selection of a fat separator for a butcher's shop is primarily based on the weekly processed animal numbers (GV). Manufacturers provide ready-made selection tables to guide you. For example, it is assumed that 1 GV equals 1 cow or 2.5 pigs. For more information, see the guide.

Which fat separator for mini catering?

A under-sink fat separator is recommended for use in small catering facilities, e.g. bars and fishmongers. The unit should be installed just behind the waste water source: under the sink or behind the dishwasher. The range includes Mini MOT and Mini FAT separators. We invite you to familiarise yourself with the products.
1

How to install a fat separator?

Installation of the tanks consists of placing the fat separator in a trench or on the floor. Then connect the separator spigots to the process sewer pipes. Next, the separator should be backfilled with stabilising sand if it is an outdoor device. Then place the extension on the separator, if present. For more information, see the guide.

When is a fat separator necessary?

Fat separators are necessary where the quantity of fat contained is higher than in domestic wastewater, e.g. in a restaurant, snack bar, hotel, food processing company, slaughterhouse or abattoir. Fatty wastewater should not be discharged into the sewerage system without pre-treatment as it reduces the efficiency of the sewage treatment plant, as well as causing clogging of sewer pipelines, corrosion of equipment and unpleasant odours.
1

How do I clean the fat separator?

The owner of the separator should not undertake the cleaning of the device himself. This should be outsourced to a certified septic tank company. An unpleasant odour is emitted during emptying. In addition, the waste must be properly neutralised.
1

Where to install a fat separator?

Grease separators should be installed as close as possible to the source of process wastewater generation. They should avoid being located in enclosed spaces, warehouses and walkways with heavy pedestrian traffic. They should not be located near windows and rooms intended for permanent human residence because of the unpleasant odour that comes with emptying. Separators should be installed to prevent them from freezing. They must be located in places that provide easy access for a service vehicle.
