For many years, the Trójmiasto (means Tri-City) has been a leader in promoting small retention by providing subsidies to its residents. Gdańsk encourages rainwater retention: "We invite residents to submit applications for financing of small retention," says Maciej Lorek, director of the Gdańsk Municipal Department of Environment. - At the same time, I would like to remind you that applications can be submitted for absorption wells and drainage boxes, not for financing rain gardens ”.

This year also, city residents from January 1 to December 31, 2021 may submit applications for financing for small retention. The program includes funding for absorbing wells and infiltration systems. The authorities of the city of Gdańsk are the few in the country to offer a one-off reimbursement of up to 100% of the costs incurred for the construction of rainwater systems. The condition is the amount of the outlay should not exceed PLN 4,000 for natural and legal persons and entrepreneurs, and PLN 10,000 for housing communities and cooperatives.

The subsidy covers not only expenses from the calendar year in which the subsidy was applied for, as well as from the year preceding it. If funds are allocated to support small retention, applications not considered in the current year will be transferred to the next year. The program will run until the allocated budget is exhausted.

It is worth paying attention to the information that the subsidy does not take into account the technical infrastructure related to rainwater management requiring permits for the construction of new road, housing, service and industrial investments.
