SUMP TRAYS - A SAFE STORAGE

Sump trays (also known as drip trays) are protective containers that provide protection against the spillage and leakage of hazardous substances from the containers in which they are stored. They are used to place barrels, tanks or containers on them, from which various chemical substances can seep. Sump trays are most often used in production plants and various types of warehouses with chemicals or liquids.

Regulations and legal standards for the storage of hazardous substances differ from country to country. Hazardous substances should be stored in warehouses that meet the conditions specified in the construction law. All recommendations refer to specific cases, as well as the location, demand, type and amount of stored materials, because each substance has its own safety data sheet, which describes, among other things, the storage method. For the storage of hazardous substances inside the building, there are, among others, sump trays, colection stations, safety cabinets, surface protection systems, work floors and others. Bearing in mind environmental protection, it is necessary to protect all hazardous liquids against release to soil and groundwater.

Workplaces are also responsible for ensuring work safety and appropriate conditions for employees and the environment, including appropriate storage and transport of hazardous substances or reducing the risk of material spilling on the floor.

A single barrel (or tank) or several barrels with different capacities can be stored on the sump tray. The capacity of a single sump tray should be at least equal to the capacity of the largest of the tanks stored on it. The load capacity of the bathtub is also important, so that it is able to bear the barrels placed on it. The material from which the sump tray is made should be resistant to the liquid to be stored and not to enter into chemical reactions with it. When selecting, it is worth paying attention to the quality of the material from which sump trays are to be made. It is best if it is a material of higher quality, then the sump trays are more universal and they can be used to store aggressive chemical liquids such as acids, alkalis or oils. Sump trays made of polyethylene are increasingly used solutions. The main advantages of this material are their lightness, ease of transport and resistance to many chemical compounds, both concentrated and diluted.
