The tax on reduced retention area has been in effect in Poland since 2018. It mainly covers owners of large properties. The tax rate depends on the percentage of concrete development of the plot. For more details on the tax, see the article. Such surfaces reduce the level of groundwater. As a result, it intensifies drought problems. This is especially important in water-poor countries, namely Poland. The purpose of this additional fee is to encourage the installation of retention systems and reduce so-called concreting.  

The tax applies to owners of surfaces that are 70% impervious. Realistically, the tax rate can be reduced or reduced altogether. One way is to install rainwater management systems. Water collected in this way can be used, for example, for the purpose of watering and irrigating green spaces. It has been announced that in 2023 there will be inspections of the correctness of tax payment. The billing issues of the last 5 years will be taken under the loupe. It is worthwhile to analyze this issue now and not be surprised. Failure to pay the tax will carry heavy penalties.
