Rainwater collecting - how to prepare for it?
The issue of rainwater collection is becoming a topic that is being addressed with increasing frequency. In Poland, the problem of drought significantly affects the lives of residents. In case of long periods without rain, temporary restrictions on water supply are introduced. It is also recommended to use water resources sparingly. In addition, increasingly higher taxes and water fees go with the drought. The remedy for this turns out to be rainwater tanks. In this article we will try to take up the basic issues related to rainwater harvesting.
The first question to ask is for what purpose we need rainwater. Will we use it for watering plants in the garden, washing the car and laundry. How large will our demand be? The catchment area and estimated rainfall are also important. This information will allow you to choose the appropriate tank capacity. To calculate the optimal capacity of the rainwater tank, formulas are used. You can find more information in our guide.
There are several types of water tanks that we have available. These include aboveground and underground tanks. In addition, you can also choose a decorative tank. It will fulfill its purpose and enhance the aesthetic value of the garden. The type of tank depends on our preferences and needs. If it is large, an underground tank will be ideal, which can come in significant capacities. Above-ground tanks (barrels) are offered in smaller liters. A rainwater management system consists not only of a tank, but also of other components. These include, for example, rainwater collectors from the gutter, soil infiltration systems, or pumps.
The use of rainwater has a number of positives. It allows to reduce the rain tax, reduce the cost of sewage collection and tap water fees. The rain tax applies to the owner of land with an area of 600 m2 or more. The amount of the fee depends on the percentage of the area that has retention properties. We described information on the tax in the article. We are seeing a trend toward stricter regulations. Small retention is supposed to be a way to reduce the effects of drought. So taxes can be expected to increase. The purchase of a rainwater management system can protect against this.
Subsidy programs for the building of rainwater management systems are also provided for investors. Currently, acceptance of applications under the nationwide My Water program has been stopped. However, many municipalities are providing local subsidies. You can find more information in our articles on subsidies. We also recommend that you contact your municipality for information at your location.
