Gray water system for the household - description of how it works
What is grey water?
It is a raw material that we treat every day as sewage - waste. Gray water is water used during bathing, showering, washing in a washing machine, washing hands etc.
The revolution that the world around us is undergoing in terms of ecological lifestyle has also affected the excessive use of water. Important steps can be taken to save up to 60% of all household water. On a monthly and yearly basis, these are very large amounts that grow to significant amounts in the household budget. Money can be saved by using grey water systems. Savings will then appear in the costs of tap water collection, but also a reduction in the costs of sewage collection should be noted. It is also worth noting that gray water management sets can be successfully coupled with rainwater and meltwater recovery systems. Such a combination is an important step towards an ecological, and in this case also an economic lifestyle and limiting the effects of drought in Poland.

The indoor gray water system has a capacity of 200 liters per day. Thanks to its simplicity of construction and optimal dimensions, it is possible to locate it in rooms such as a basement or garage.
The operation of the installation is based on the use of particulate filters (suspended). In the mentioned PURAIN filter, they are separated from the water coming from the shower, washbasin, washing machine, etc. Then the water is subjected to a process that allows the separation of the solutions into their individual components using the AQUALOOP system membranes. This is the most important step in the process to obtain a high standard of water. So cleaned it goes later to the clean water tank, from where it is finally taken thanks to the RAINMASTER ECO unit (available with the AQUAMATIC DOMESTIC S PLUS version) to feed the toilet, washing machine, garden sprinkler, etc. The design of the described system allows for uninterrupted operation even if it is not in the tank purified water. The system will simply switch to mains water.

The outdoor gray water system has a capacity of 200 liters per day. It is a twin system to the indoor set. The issue that differs between the two systems is the type of tanks.
The system consists of two vertical underground tanks. The first of them is the reactor chamber, in which the water purification process takes place thanks to dedicated devices (PURAIN filter, AQUALOOP membrane station). The chamber is also characterized by larger dimensions, and thus the volume. This can be used by using a floating leyers supplied with air. This is to stimulate the work of aerobic bacteria that break down organic matter in gray water. To "drive" the system, an economical automatic pump should be used, which is also used for rainwater recovery, as well as a filling set. The pump and the filling set allow the facility to be supplied with water and its automatic refilling.

The hybrid grey water system and rainwater has a capacity of 200 l per day.
The system is identical to the outdoor gray water system. The only difference is the clean water tank, which in this case is replaced with a rainwater tank. The purified water goes to the rainwater tank, from where it is directed through filters to the system in a given facility. In order to distribute water, a rainwater central unit should be used and then the system can be described as comparable to a home and garden set additionally supplied with water recovered from gray water.
Description of installation elements
Pre-filter - its task is to prevent larger particles from getting into the tank. It has the additional function of collecting the foam that floats on the surface and protecting the bioreactor chamber against rodent access.
Floating fittings - the task of the fittings is to maximize the surfaces where the growth of microorganisms that break down pollutants takes place.
C-MEM membrane - consists of many hollow fibers. There are holes in their walls with a diameter that allows them to retain most of the contaminants, including viruses and bacteria. The membrane is highly effective from the first use thanks to its hydrophilic properties. It is estimated that the period of effective operation of the membrane can be up to 10 years.
Blower - its task is to supply air to the reactor, the purpose of which is to stimulate aerobic bacteria whose task is to decompose matter (purify). In addition, thanks to the blower, it is possible to detach impurities from the membrane.
Power supply to the installation - the power supply consists of the control panel (pumping device), the purpose of which is to pump the purified water to flushing cisterns, washing machines, garden watering systems, etc.
Membrane station and controller - the membrane station is a frame for membranes (up to 6 membranes can be connected) and a filter pump. The station is supplied with air from the blower via a duct. In addition, the station includes a tank that collects purified water for rinsing membranes. The operation of the pumps and the blower is controlled by the controller equipped with the station.
